About Artist
Tzion Essel
Tzion Essel is a London-based artist and educator whose practice centres on narrative, storytelling, and an ongoing dialogue with the complexities of the human condition and our relationship to the natural world. Drawing from the traditions of classical art and the Pictorialist movement, his work adopts a cinematic, painterly, and monochromatic aesthetic to construct images that invite spiritual and philosophical reflection. He has exhibited both in the UK and internationally, and his work has received multiple recognitions. He was recently shortlisted for the John Ruskin Art Prize and awarded an Honourable Mention at the Neutral Density Awards. He holds a BA in Photography from Kingston University and an MA in Photography from the University of the Arts London. "My photographs begin with questions rather than answers. I am interested in how images can communicate experiences that resist language such as grief, longing, transcendence, memory, and our search for meaning. Working exclusively in black and white, I build symbolic narratives that draw from literature, philosophy, and the natural world. Rather than presenting fixed interpretations, I hope the work creates space for viewers to slow down and discover their own relationship with the images."
