Blue Collar

In 2012, I entered Keelung’s shipyard as a coating inspector. Witnessing workers in toxic, confined spaces and working at extreme heights deeply affected me. It shifted my lens from technical inspection to documenting the hidden human cost and endurance of this iron world.

About Artist

Eden Lai

Born in Keelung in 1983, Eden Lai is a Taiwan-based photographer and independent publisher. His eight years as a marine coating inspector at a shipyard transformed precise technical scrutiny into a deeply personal mode of seeing. Moving beyond mere physical documentation, he engages texture, rhythm, and structural fragmentation to reexamine human presence and reveal the psychological disquiet embedded in everyday reality.
