Harpy No 2

The Harpy, traditionally a swift and violent mythological creature, pretending to be beautiful and virtuous, yet the stains of blood can not be ignored. Her vilene wings are unable to make her fly. She will only touch the light of divinity, never to become Divine herself. MUA & Model: Michelle Raath

About Artist

Géran Raath

Géran Raath is a fashion and fine art photographer hailing from South Africa, known for his distinctive style and innovative approach to visual storytelling. Drawing inspiration from traditional cinema of the West and contemporary visuals of the East, Géran's artistic vision is a captivating fusion of diverse influences. With a deep appreciation for the intricate details that shape a narrative, Géran's artistic process encompasses more than just capturing the subject. He meticulously orchestrates every element, from the set design to the authenticity of props, recognizing their pivotal role in conveying his intended message. This meticulous attention to detail ensures that each image possesses a distinct and immersive quality. Géran's creative technique extends beyond post-production manipulation, as he relies on in-camera effects to imbue his photographs with a sense of movement and vitality. This unique approach allows his images to retain an organic and dynamic quality, capturing fleeting moments of emotion and energy. Specializing in conceptual fine art portraiture and fantasy digital art, Géran collaborates closely with his wife, Michelle, who is both an accomplished artist and makeup artist (MUA). Together, they transform themselves and their models into living embodiments of their artistic vision, utilizing prosthetics, makeup, and carefully curated costumes. Michelle's profound expertise as an MUA and Géran's background in Production Design contribute to the seamless integration of their creative elements. What sets Géran apart is his radical and spontaneous approach to his craft. As he steps behind the camera, he immerses himself in the role of a creator, the studio floor is concidered a stage, so the fantastical creatures can come to life. Rather than relying on static poses, Géran encourages a natural flow of movement, often incorporating dance into his shoots to enhance authenticity and evoke genuine emotions. Based in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, Géran, and Michelle jointly operate a digital visual art studio where they explore the boundaries of their creativity and push the limits of visual storytelling. Their work has garnered critical acclaim and numerous accolades, reflecting his dedication to crafting compelling narratives that leave a lasting impact on viewers. With each photograph, they endeavor to create an immersive experience that resonates deeply, showcasing the power of art to transcend boundaries and ignite the imagination.
