About Artist

Tijn van Meerveld

Tijn van Meerveld is a photographer and visual artist whose work examines resilience, identity, and the visibility of marginalized lives. Having grown up in post-reunification East Germany, his early experiences of social and economic hardship continue to inform his critical perspective and strong documentary sensibility. After studying Business Communication, Visual Design, and Photography in Berlin, Tijn initially built a career in design and user experience, consulting for major European corporations. Parallel to this professional path, he developed an independent artistic practice deeply rooted in human stories and the layered nuances of gesture, presence, and silence. His photographic work often explores the quiet strength of individuals navigating structures of inequality, giving form to experiences that remain underrepresented in mainstream visual culture. Tijn’s images are recognized for their clarity of composition and emotional immediacy, balancing intimacy with social commentary. He co-founded a charitable foundation addressing poverty in Europe, an initiative that continues to shape the ethical grounding of his artistic projects. In 2025, his work was shortlisted for the BBA One Shot Award Summer 2025, affirming his growing presence in the contemporary photography field. He currently lives and works in Amsterdam, where he is engaged in long-term visual investigations into identity, community, and the politics of daily life.
