ARTIST’S STATEMENT I've always seen nature as something inherently mysterious, a far more complex subject than what one might register at first glance. Those wild places which resonate deeply within us reflect our primeval relationship with the environment—even in modern times when we think we've evolved beyond nature. Today, many of us can no longer relate to the wild. Any sense of profundity during an outing is lost in our race to grab a selfie before hurrying on to the next iconic spot. We experience it all at a superficial level where success is measured by the number of places we've visited. A "body count" mentality, if you will. My photographs offer a deeper contemplation of nature where atmosphere, structure, space, and sensitivity take precedence. Each image begins not as documentation, but as interpretation: an attempt to reveal nature's physical and emotional architectures. I seek not only to capture, but to converse with the environment, exploring how the geometry of dunes, clouds, and other structures; the balance of horizon and void; the fleeting interplay of shadow and reflection; all collaborate to form a new language of visual expression. This raw, simple language drives my landscapes toward minimalism. Reducing the composition to its essence heightens one's perception, allowing a single horizon, a trace of shadow, or the meeting of surfaces to speak with clarity and resonance. Similarly, contrast is another core tenet: light and dark, soft and hard, fluid and static, serene and tense, fleeting and enduring. By capturing the interplay between these states, my photographs serve as meditations that invite you to slow down and re-kindle your connection with the wild. BIO An emerging fine art photographer, Bryan Sabol is a technical communicator by trade, a marine biologist through academics, and a lifelong devotee of creative photography. Bryan combines emotive landscape photography in both still and animated formats with fanciful narratives to capture the raw beauty of nature and explore the depth of human experience. He studied darkroom and film photography at the University of Oregon; received his BA in Biology from Reed College, where he was the photojournalist for The Quest, the school newspaper; and earned his MS in Biology from Florida State University. Since transitioning to full-time photography in 2022, Bryan's art has been exhibited in galleries across the United States, including Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Missouri, and Ohio. He lives on a cliff overlooking Puget Sound in Washington state, USA, where inspiration is as close as his back yard.
