About Artist

Valerie Simmons

Valerie Simmons Bio Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, Valerie Simmons grew up balancing competitive sports with art and dance classes—an early blend of discipline and creative expression that continues to shape her work. Simmons studied Fine Art and Photography in college, where she developed a strong technical foundation and a deep appreciation for visual storytelling. After graduating, she built a commercial photography career working with international clients across multiple industries. These experiences sharpened her ability to translate ideas into refined, impactful imagery while maintaining high production standards. Alongside her commercial practice, Simmons began teaching photography at the college level. In the classroom, she mentors emerging photographers in both technical mastery and conceptual development, encouraging them to cultivate a distinct visual voice and a thoughtful approach to image-making. Today, Simmons reconnecting with her artistic roots, returning to a more personal Fine Art practice. Her current work explores themes of identity, movement, and memory—bringing together the discipline of her commercial career, the curiosity of her early creative years, and her ongoing commitment to growth as both an artist and educator.
