A Father’s Cry

At Nasser Medical Complex, a father rushes in shock, carrying his lifeless daughter, torn apart by an Israeli airstrike. His silent scream reflects unbearable pain. Around him, cameras capture yet another tragedy in Gaza, where hospitals receive shattered bodies, and grief never ends. How many more?

About Artist

Abdelrahman Alkahlout

Abdelrahman Alkahlout is an internationally awarded Palestinian photojournalist and visual storyteller from Gaza, born on December 27, 1996. His journey with the camera began in 2009 as a hobby, but it quickly evolved into a powerful tool for resistance and truth-telling amid the escalating conflict in Palestine. Through his lens, Abdelrahman documents the human cost of war, displacement, and siege, with a deep commitment to preserving dignity and truth. He has covered key historical events, including the Israeli military offensives on Gaza in 2014, 2021, and the devastating war of 2023. Despite being injured six times while reporting—four of them by sniper fire during the Great March of Return (2018–2019) in Nahal Oz and Erez, and the latest in 2023 while covering the genocide—he remains unwavering in his mission. These injuries were sustained despite wearing full professional press gear, a testament to the risks Palestinian journalists face simply for doing their job. His work stands out not only for its technical excellence but also for its profound emotional depth. He has received international recognition, including top honors at the Tokyo International Foto Awards (TIFA) 2024, where he was named Photographer of the Year, and First Place in Editorial/Press at the Fine Art Photography Awards 2025 for his gripping series “Faces of Genocide: Untold Stories from Gaza.” He has also received platinum awards from the MUSE Photography Awards 2025 and accolades from Siena, LensCulture, and New York Photography Awards. Abdelrahman’s images have been exhibited in global venues including Budapest, Athens, and London. He was selected among the 2024 LensCulture Emerging Talents, and his work has been featured in high-profile international media. Despite facing immense personal loss—including the destruction of his family home and the killing of relatives—he continues to advocate for justice through his photography. His powerful series often focus on children, wounded civilians, destroyed hospitals, and the untold stories of Palestinian families. His project “The Corridor of Separation” sheds light on how the Netzarim corridor tore families apart in Gaza, while “A Mother’s Hand” captures a child’s refusal to let go of his wounded mother amidst chaos. Beyond the frontlines, Abdelrahman amplifies the voices of the voiceless. He is known for his fierce dedication to ethical storytelling, his refusal to sanitize the brutality of occupation, and his relentless pursuit to show the world what mainstream media often ignores. He believes that the camera is mightier than bullets, and that images can pierce silence more deeply than words ever could. Currently based in Istanbul for medical treatment, Abdelrahman remains unable to return to Gaza due to the ongoing closure. Yet, even in exile, he continues to document, speak out, and ensure that the world does not look away. Through each frame, he honors those who cannot tell their stories—and demands that the world finally listens.
