Among the unaware
Framed by chance, I noticed children sitting altogether with the fourth child sit still, he met the camera’s gaze. There was no tension in his eyes, only presence. A quiet awareness. That child, among the unaware, becomes a mirror. A question; Are you watching? Or are you just in the frame?
About Artist
Wendell Duane De Vera
A wallflower holding a camera; quiet, observant, always lurking just enough to catch a story unfold before it realises that it is being seen. My style of captures are not a chase for perfection hence the magic of reality happens, to wait for the people to forget they are being watched or being observed to be a proper, eye pleasant subject: A laugh that flies so soon, a glance that lingers for a good while or perhaps a distinct careless silliness and stillness which is too raw to pose. Drawn to mesmerising moments of being unaware, the awkwardly honest and those in-between seconds where nothing much happens; well except everything. I am not a person to showcase the grandeurs, I am about the odd intimacy of strangers, landscapes and poetry of the cycle of coexistence and people just..... being. Behind the lens, Am a hopeful romantic with a hint of the soul of a documentary filmmaker and perhaps a wit of someone who makes too many puns when nervous - corny or not. I just don't press the shutter button as I as well do eavesdrop respectfully with a good lighting; granting any bright or dark scenarios. Regardless of being on the road, in quiet corners or somewhere in the middle of nowhere, I am out existing in places catching feelings through a viewfinder. One unguarded frame at a time.
