About Artist

Shingo Ohta

Shingo Ohta is a Japanese fine art photographer based in the Tajima region of Hyogo, Japan. Since 2012, he has devoted his photographic practice to the ever-changing waves of the Sea of Japan. His signature series, COSMIC OCEAN, transforms the fleeting forms of waves, sea foam, and light into visions of cosmic creation, emerging life, and mythology. Working with real ocean waves rather than digitally generated imagery, Ohta reveals extraordinary, often otherworldly structures hidden within the natural world. Through high-speed photography and a distinctive approach to composition and color, he explores the boundary between the visible and the invisible, the physical and the imagined. His work has received international recognition, including an Editors’ Selection by LensCulture and an Honorable Mention at the Annual Photography Awards. His photograph Silver Tempest was featured on the cover of Photografique Issue 001. Ohta continues to photograph the Sea of Japan, pursuing a singular artistic vision: to reveal the universe within the ocean.
