Jade Fortress

Materialised onto the rocky shore of Hong Kong’s South towers a billion dollar Jade fortress, cast into the orange veiled sky. With its cascading facade and deep vertical crevices the construction site draped in Nylon mesh forms a sculptural yet unfinished cocoon, born into the hard-edged landscape.

About Artist

Stefan West

Stefan West is a interior+architecture, landscape and portrait photographer based in Berlin. Having worked for about 15 years in East-Asia and SE-Asia, Stefan has grown particularly fond of Hong Kong as well as close-by regions such as China and Japan, which are subjects in his photography. First-hand seeing the rapid urban and industrial transformations in Hong Kong and China, mostly between 2005 and 2020, themes such as urbanisation and architecture, materiality, industry, change of environment, adaption and ecological transformation became stronger visual drivers in his photographic output. Stefan’s photographic works are informed by classic concepts of photography as well as contemporary visual narratives, part documentarian and part conceptual.
