"Kyoto Colours"
Autumn in Kyoto as seen through the windows at Ruriko-in, a former residence of a Meiji statesman. Stunning clings and greens reflected in the lacquer table.
About Artist
Carol Hamcke-Onstwedder
I am a fine art photographer who aims to inspire respect, curiosity and wonder of the natural world and of different cultures in my work. With a background in public policy and development studies, I bring a thoughtful and globally informed lens to my photography. My practice is driven by a deep engagement with the natural environment and an unending inquisitiveness regarding daily life, cultural expression, and traditions -- taken together, I am able to capture visual and emotional narratives. Working across multiple photographic techniques and disciplines, I explore the interplay of texture, form, light, and colour in all my nature and landscape photography ... many time veering to abstract and creative interpretations of what I see through my. lens. In my porter and street p photography, I focus on that human connection, engaging with my subjects, documenting cultural traditions, and capturing fleeting, authentic moments. Throughout all my photographic work, I seek to evoke emotion and spark a deeper interest, and perhaps even concern, about the world around us.
