Giacomo Marchione
Giacomo Marchione is an acclaimed Italian underwater photographer, as well as a practicing orthopedic surgeon. Born on February 15, 1960, in Moncalieri, Italy, he pursued his medical studies at the University of Turin, graduating in 1988. By 1993, he had specialized in Orthopedics and Traumatology . Marchione’s passion for underwater photography ignited in 1992 during a tropical vacation where he obtained his first scuba diving certification. Captivated by the marine world, he began documenting its beauty through photography, a pursuit that has since earned him numerous accolades. His work has been featured in prestigious publications and competitions, including an Honorable Mention at the International Photography Awards for his piece titled “Big Mouth,” which captures a whale shark illuminated by boat lights . His photographic expeditions have taken him across the globe, from the Maldives and Indonesia to Malaysia and the Ligurian Sea in Italy. Marchione’s portfolio showcases a diverse array of marine life, highlighting his expertise in both macro and wide-angle underwater photography. Notably, he secured a bronze medal in the Black & White category at the DPG Masters Underwater Imaging Competition in 2021 .
