The Last Tenant

In 2023 Seoul marked Hannam for redevelopment. By 2025 nearly nine thousand households were gone. I returned before demolition and placed a woman in mourning black in the emptied alleys. She does not live here. She is what remains after everyone leaves.

About Artist

Jaehee Cho

I am a film photographer based in Seoul. Much of my work circles around the gap between what is seen and what is shown. I tend to look for what the city still holds, what it is about to lose, and what has already vanished without a trace. I follow these traces through people and places, usually somewhere between document and fiction. What draws me is less the buildings themselves than the act of leaving, and what stays behind once everyone is gone.
