About Artist
Rosslana Damyanova
Rosslana is a documentary photographer based in Sofia, Bulgaria. Her early exposure to art shaped a deep curiosity for the way stories move through people, spaces, and time. Born into a culture rich in history and traditions, she was drawn to the emotional textures of everyday life—its fragility, intensity, and quiet symbolism. Her academic background in French Philology, combined with her experience in the experimental theatre troupe Alma Alter, nurtured a sensitivity to language, movement, and performance. These early influences continue to inform her visual storytelling, which often lies at the intersection of realism and poetry. Rosslana’s practice centers around the belief that photography is not just a way to see the world—but to feel it, to understand it, and to share it. Her work explores personal and collective memory, human vulnerability, and the invisible threads that bind us. She is most passionate about long-form documentary narratives, as well as dance and performance photography, where gesture becomes a kind of unspoken truth. Through projects like Soap Flower and Jinn, she has explored themes ranging from family intimacy to psychological trauma under societal pressure. Her images are quiet yet powerful, often shaped by empathy, introspection, and a deep respect for her subjects. With each frame, she seeks to transform personal experience into a shared story—one that invites reflection, recognition, and connection.
