Bio
Son of Luxembourgish mother and Cape Verdean father, Kim Lang was born and raised in Luxembourg. Growing up travelling with his mother and grandfather, a documentary filmmaker, between Namibia, South Africa, and the US, shaped his interest in culture, journalism and history. During his formative years as a teenager Lang was part of a locally based theatre group called ‘Musicalfans & Co’ which engaged in biannual stage productions. As an active member for 8 years Lang got to venture within different fields as performer, director, and costume designer: formative experiences which have influenced his professional work practice since. In 2010, Lang moved to London at the age of 20 to pursue his studies in Photography at the University of the Arts London. Since his graduation, Lang has worked within the art department for publications such British Vogue, Wired UK, British GQ, and The Rake International, until establishing his name as a freelance photographer. Since 2016 has been working in the fields of fashion and portraiture for independent and high end commercial publications and clients. Drawn from influences in Lang’s earlier life his work often focuses on the complexity of cultural and societal identities. Channeling an engaging and eclectic energy, his work centers itself around capturing personality, individuality and identity through a storytelling lens. His bodies of work, often described as theatrical, are rich in symbolism that can evoke a sense of modern iconography.
