Bio

Marek Boguszak is a Prague-based photographer whose work converts desert landscapes into perceptual abstractions. Working with photographs made in environments such as Death Valley and the dunes of Abu Dhabi, he uses light, texture, and spatial relationships as raw material for an extended process of visual reconstruction. Through transformations of colors, orientation, luminosity, and formal compression, the original terrain gradually loses its descriptive function and evolves into unstable image spaces that move between photography and abstraction. Boguszak aims to sustain tension, ambiguity, and perceptual instability within the image. The resulting works oscillate between different readings, such as associations of landscape topologies, bodily surfaces, folded fabric, and architectural space, resisting fixed interpretation. Produced as large-scale prints, the works are conceived not only as images, but as immersive spatial experiences. Boguszak’s practice spans more than forty years, evolving from analogue black-and-white photography to large-scale digital color works. His work has been exhibited internationally and received awards including consecutive First Prizes at the International Photography Awards (2023, 2024) and the Gold Award at the Prix de la Photographie Paris (2024). His works are held in private collections in Europe and the USA.
