Bio

Seunggu Kim is a Seoul-based photographer whose work explores the complexities and tensions of contemporary life by visually balancing familiar everyday scenes with subtle, uncanny elements. His practice centers on themes such as the city, the suburbs, leisure, and climate, examining the evolving interplay between tradition and modernity, and between spiritual values and material desires. He has held over ten solo exhibitions, including at Filter Space in Chicago (2019) and The Korea Society in New York (2019), and has participated in numerous group exhibitions at institutions such as the Center for Creative Photography in Arizona, Photoville and Aperture Gallery in New York, and FotoFest in Houston. Kim was the recipient of the 13th Ilwoo Photography Award in the Publishing category, the Life Framer Photography Award (Grand Prize), and was selected as a finalist for the 11th KT&G SKOPF (Sangsangmadang Korean Photographer's Fellowship). His work is included in the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Photography (MoCP) in Chicago, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow, and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea.
