About Artist
Laura Lewis
I am a fantasy portrait photographer specializing in immersive, story-driven experiences on both dry land and underwater. My work exists at the intersection of imagination, embodiment, and self-expression - where photography becomes more than an image, and instead becomes a doorway into seeing oneself in a new, empowered felt sense. Rather than asking clients to simply pose for a camera, I invite them into a guided creative journey. Each session is built collaboratively through mood boards, storytelling prompts, wardrobe exploration, location scouting, and intuitive pose coaching. Whether we are creating an ethereal mermaid emerging from crystal waters, a powerful fae guardian in the forest, or a whimsical, bold version of someone who has long hidden parts of themselves, the intention is always the same: to create a space where play, curiosity, and authenticity are safe to emerge. Many of the people who step in front of my lens do not consider themselves “photogenic.” Some are creatives who feel disconnected from their work, others are in transition, and many are simply longing to feel seen in a way that everyday life does not often allow. My role is part photographer, part guide, and part mirror. I help clients move through nerves, self-doubt, and perfectionism so they can reconnect with the parts of themselves that feel alive, expressive, and true. The resulting portraits are not about becoming someone else, they are about revealing what was already there. Underwater photography has become a particularly powerful extension of this work. The water strips away habitual tension and control, inviting surrender, presence, and trust. For many clients, it becomes a deeply emotional experience, one that mirrors personal transformation and release. As someone relatively new to underwater photography, I approach it with reverence and curiosity, continually learning, refining technique, and sharing that growth openly with my community. This humility and transparency are core to how I practice my craft. I am deeply compelled to this genre because fantasy has always been a language of survival and self-understanding for me. Fantasy allows us to explore identity, strength, softness, and possibility beyond the constraints of expectation. It gives shape to feelings that don’t always have words. Through photography, I am able to offer others the same sense of permission, to imagine themselves more expansively, to take up space, and to be witnessed in their chosen magic. Artistically, my work is characterized by rich jewel tones, dreamlike light, and cinematic composition, balanced with careful attention to body language and emotional truth. Technically, I combine intentional in-camera choices with expert retouching to enhance atmosphere without erasing humanity. Every image is crafted to feel immersive, intentional, and alive. Ultimately, what I create are not just portraits, but experiences that linger. Clients leave with artwork that reflects how they see themselves or, rather how they are learning to see themselves, and with memories that feel playful, affirming, and transformative. My greatest hope is that each image becomes a reminder: you are allowed to be seen the way you want to be seen.
