Scarlett Coten is a French visual artist graduating from the École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie in Arles.
Based in the south of France since 2020 after years in Paris, Scarlett dedicates herself to profound personal projects while contributing to national or international press.
Throughout her journeys worldwide, her work centered on important social issues related notably, to notions of marginality and resistance. Her artistic approach delves into the intricacies of identity, gender, and intimacy linked to notions of nomadism, margins, and survival. Her immersive approach blending documentary precision with a cinematic inspiration transcends traditional boundaries, and her work both artistically captivating and politically charged, reflects a profound connection between the artist and her subjects.
Scarlett is the winner of prestigious grants and awards, including the Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2016, Critical Mass TOP 50 2018, Photography Now 2021 (Center for Photography at Woodstock), or the Ministry of Culture’s Grande Commission 2022.
