Maia Murphy
Bio
Maia Murphy is an art historian, curator, and writer who is currently a senior editor at Phaidon Press. Since joining Phaidon in 2021 she has served as project editor for many illustrated books including A History of the World in Dingbats (David Byrne), The Brutalists (Owen Hopkins), Internet_Art (Omar Kholeif), Revolution: The History of Turntable Design (Gideon Schwartz), and Great Women Painters (Phaidon Editors). Raised in Colorado and based in New York, she has worked in the arts for over fifteen years in galleries and non-profit institutions, including arts and wildlife conservation organizations. She has curated or contributed research to exhibitions at the United Nations, the Cyprus Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, among others, and is a founding member of two artist residency networks. Her writing has been published by Blue Shield International, the Reanimation Library, the Artist’s Institute, the Paris College of Art, the Abrons Art Center, and Bomb magazine. She holds a BA in art history from Barnard College and an MA in art history from Hunter College.
