Amber Coast
The Curonian Spit, amazing landscape, has been part of my life since childhood. Women – powerful, endless, giving, mysterious, dramatic, dangerous, calm, fragile, ironic, and poetic – remind me of every tiny sand particle sliding in the wind. Women have so many faces and are never fully understood.
About Artist
Monika Maroziene
Monika Maroziene is a Lithuanian-born visual artist whose work bridges the worlds of science and art. With a master’s degree in chemistry, she brings a unique perspective to fine art photography by combining scientific precision with emotional storytelling. Her experimental process involves melting pine tree resin onto black-and-white prints a technique that not only adds warmth and depth but also preserves the images naturally. This approach reflects her deep connection to nature and her upbringing along the Amber Coast. Her ongoing project, Amber Coast, is inspired by the landscapes of the Curonian Spit, where wind, sand, and sea have shaped a place of rare beauty. Instead of fossilised amber, Monika uses raw pine resin, connecting her work to the present moment while honoring the ancient spirit of the Baltic region. The series explores themes of memory, womanhood, and personal transformation capturing the emotional complexity of her subjects through poetic and minimalist compositions. Her photography reflects her fascination with the strength, vulnerability, and mystery of women. Through a monochromatic lens, she portrays them as ever-changing, much like the shifting sands and tides of her childhood surroundings. Her photographs are recognised for their aesthetic depth, quiet irony, and sense of melancholy. Monika’s work has been awarded internationally, including 1st Place at the Monochrome Photography Awards 2024 and the Tokyo International Foto Awards 2024. Her images have been exhibited throughout Europe, including solo and group exhibitions in Switzerland, Italy, and France.
